California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)
California Freight Planning Technical Services

Project
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is developing a Freight Planning Technical Study that aims to provide Caltrans district and headquarters freight planning staff the support needed to implement the California Freight Mobility Plan (CFMP) 2023, California Sustainable Freight Action Plan (CSFAP), and the California Transportation Plan (CTP) 2050. The intent is to build the expertise and skillsets of Caltrans freight planning staff to conduct activities necessary for Federal and State statutory compliance, promote partnerships and coordination, and support freight in California
Our Work
The collective effort involves bringing together a disparate set of information and tasks (physical inventory, planned projects, data, training, workshops, truck parking, etc.). This complexity, when combined with a geographically and technically diverse Caltrans staff, creates a premium on finding an effective way to present, store, and update the information.
As a member of a project team, ETG is assisting in the following tasks:
• District Baseline Condition Assessment – Collecting and analyzing freight-related physical inventory, planned/programmed projects from Caltrans’ 12 districts.
• Create an on-line GIS-based story map
• Truck Parking Analysis
